helping musicians grow, get seen and get heard

film, content and music marketing for independent artists

SEE THE WORK

Your music is only the beginning

You've made the music. Great. Now what?

That's my bit. I make the films, help you figure out the content and work with artists on what happens around the release.

Basically, you make the music and I help it to find the people who will love it.

Stuff we've made

A few things I've made for artists, brands and people with interesting stories to tell.

Nate James - The Man I Am

We've created a lot more than music videos since 2020.

This project is a good example of how I work with artists beyond just filming music videos and content.

I helped plan the release, got involved in the recording process and worked through some of the bigger marketing decisions.

I then produced the music videos, live and interview content and created social content around the release.

This is a project that involves making the film content as well as building a whole world around the music.

EM Kane - Wasted Time

Three acts, three shots and one story.

EM Kane came to me with a great but simple concept. Howevber I felt the song deserved a bigger story.

The entire video is built around just three shots, using clever, organic transitions to move from one act to the next.

Keeping the structure tight also gave us more opportunities to pull out different moments for social content, without the video feeling like it was made for social.

Barefoot Junkie

A totally different world but the same approach.

I’ve worked with Barefoot Junkie for around eight years, running their YouTube channel and creating all of their video content.

I write, direct and shoot the videos, as well as representing the brand on camera. They trust me to understand the audience, come up with the ideas and get on with making the content.

There’s no list waiting for me to tick off. They trust me to decide what’s worth making, and I deliver it.

I’ve worked in the music industry on and off since I was 16 (which was 40 years ago). In that time, I’ve seen some massive changes. Formats have come and gone (and come back). Entire genres have been invented. But now, for the first time, it feels like something has properly broken. So… where did the wheels actually fall off?

A musician messaged me recently and said I was wasting my time making music videos. Apparently her manager told her not to bother because “no one watches them anymore.” Which is always a fun thing to hear when a big part of your job is… making music videos. Now, before you think I told her the manager was clueless, I didn’t. Because here’s the thing. He’s kind of right. And also completely wrong.

Let's face the elephant in the room If you’re a musician thinking, “AI is going to make me irrelevant”, pull up a chair. I'm about to drop a few truth bombs - in fact a lot of truth bombs!
